AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

Utilizing AVID strategies and practices provide elementary students an opportunity to develop strong meta-cognition, collaborative, and processing skills allows them to better understand and utilize content information. The core of AVID Foundations classrooms is WICOR (Writing to Learn, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading to Learn). Foundations classrooms are designed to develop and build academic skills in all core content areas as students are learning to reflect on their own learning.
Statistics
75% of AVID students are from a low socioeconomic status background, and 80% are underrepresented students. Nevertheless, they outperform their peers in crucial metrics nationwide. 90% of AVID students have been accepted into a 4 year college.
